Cells 2015 | 40 x 32 Original by José Unda
This abstract painting by international artist José Unda is a thought-provoking original piece from his Cells series. It explores the question of what it means to be alive as a human being. Unda's intent in creating this piece is to invite the viewer to ask and answer questions for themselves. He wants them to consider what they see through his art.
"My art is not as simple or linear as a landscape or a portrait, which many consider easy to consume and look at. When you take a landscape or a portrait and turn it upside-down, you see a mess. It doesn’t make sense. I chose to go abstract because my paintings could be viewed upside down, right side up or sideways. Abstract has more possibilities because when you see a landscape, you see it only one way. Whereas with abstract, it doesn’t matter, as long as it helps the viewer get the answer they are looking for. With my work, you can see it from any side and it’ll be different and provide you with different answers."
